Senior Officer, Consular and Passports Services (BB3)

The Australian High Commission is seeking a suitable person for the position of Senior Officer, Consular and Passports Services.

Duties of position:
• Assist in managing the operation of the mission’s Consular and Passport services in providing efficient and effective services to Australian citizens in Malaysia in accordance with departmental policies and legislative requirements.
• Assist in the supervision of Consular and Passport officers.
• Provide consular services to Australian citizens, answer telephone and email enquiries on consular matters from the public (both Australian and Malaysian citizens) within 24 hours of receipt of query on a normal operational day.
• Receive and process applications for Australian travel documents in accordance with the Passports Act 2005, and Regulations and Manual of Australian Passport issue.
• Provide accurate and efficient notarial services and translation duties as required.
• Assist in periodical and quarterly returns including Passports and Consular statistics.
• Maintain the register of Australians residing in or visiting Malaysia.
• Undertake other tasking as directed.

Selection Criteria:
• Highly developed research and analytical skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia including the ability to write complex reports in English.
• Highly developed liaison and representational skills, in order to represent the Australian Government and the Australian High Commission, as necessary, in a range of meetings with government/non-government agencies.
• Ability to prioritise workload on a daily basis and work under strict deadlines.
• Computer literacy with sound computer/keyboard skills and experience with standard software applications including Microsoft Office.
• Demonstrated high standard of conduct and integrity including ability to adhere to Australian Government policies for example privacy laws.
• Highly developed ability to deal with issues of a sensitive and personal nature in a discreet manner.
• Consular work experience would be an advantage.

Conditions

Salary per month is RM4654.00 plus two months contractual bonus and other benefits.
