Political and Research Officer (BB3)

The Australian High Commission is seeking a suitable person for the position of Political and Research Officer.

Duties of Position:
• Monitor Malaysia's political situation, and the development and implementation of Malaysian government foreign and domestic policy settings.
• Research, analyse and prepare reports on political, foreign and domestic policy development and implementation in Malaysia, and on the implications for the Australian Government.
• Develop and maintain contacts in business, government, civil society, Parliament and academia.
• Prepare and support programs for official visitors to Malaysia and arrange appointments for High Commission staff as required.
• Provide support for events and representational functions as required.
• Provide unofficial Bahasa Malaysia translation services.
• Provide backup support for other team members as necessary.
• Other work as required.

Selection Criteria:
• Well-developed research and analytical skills.
• Proven highly effective communication skills, written and oral, in both English and Bahasa Malaysia. Other language skills will be considered favourably.
• Demonstrated knowledge about Malaysia’s general economy, society and politics.
• Demonstrated initiative, adaptability and flexibility including an ability to work under pressure and respond to challenges.
• Demonstrated flexibility, effective interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a team environment, including a willingness to back-up other officers, as required.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritise and organise workloads, allocate resources and meet deadlines without close supervision.
• Manage work in conformance with Work Health and Safety principles and demonstrate an ability to manage change in the work environment.
• Good knowledge of the internet and well-developed computer skills (Microsoft Office).

Conditions

Salary per month is RM4654.00 plus two months contractual bonus and other benefits.
