‘In-Sight’ – art exhibition by Australian artist Lisa Roet

The Australian High Commission is proud to present ‘In-Sight’, a solo art exhibition featuring new works by Australian artist Lisa Roet. This exciting new exhibition consists of a series of neon and LED light sculptures, audio video works and drawings addressing the demise of wild orang utan populations in Borneo.

The neon and LED light sculptures and audio video works highlight the dwindling populations of the endangered apes at present time. Meanwhile the drawings are a series of 12 portraits of orang utan that Lisa has worked with in zoos and laboratories over the past 15 years, personalising each individual ape.

This exhibition represents an exciting cross pollination between environmental awareness and contemporary art practices.

Lisa Roet had two previous exhibitions held at the National Art Gallery in 2000 and 2001 which were related to her new body of works for ‘In-Sight’.

About Lisa Roet
For the past 15 years, Australian born visual artist Lisa Roet has been working on a conceptually based research project which analyses the changing relationship between Man and his nearest living animal relatives, the Ape. Through this research in Borneo and at Zoos, circus's and scientific Laboratories world wide, she has developed an extensive range of works which looks at this relationship from a unique perspective. The subsequent works and installations have been exhibited internationally for the past decade, winning numerous awards such as Australia’s National Works on Paper Award in 2003 and the National Sculpture award also in 2003.
